After planning our move from the Bay Area to the Big Island for the last 13 years, in earnest mid-2011, Jim McCain made everything happen for us with no fuss, no muss and for much less money than any other moving company we contacted. We tend to over-analyze, over-research everything, but especially something as important as relocating our lives from the mainland to Hawaii. Jim came through on every moving arrangement he made for us and our truck with no surprises and the best available service. He helped us get the container packed at our San Rafael, CA residence in early October 2011 and our truck taken for shipping at the Oakland harbor, too. By the time we arrived in Kona later that month, our belongings were neatly unloaded at the local storage unit of our choice. Our truck arrived days later less than a mile from our temporary rental. Jim was available at every turn to answer any questions we had about anything. He understood our anxieties and kept us focused on our goal in the kindest, most informative way. We would recommend him without reservation to anyone who is considering making this move to Hawaii. Jim handled all of our shipping which consisted of a car by regular "car shipping", a 40 ft. container, then 4 months later another container (20 ft). I have been a nuclear plant inspector and still am an airplane inspector, and you can rest assured if there was anything about Jim or his services we were not satisfied with that we would have not used him a second time. I have recommended him openly on the konaweb.com site as well as locally. I have never met Jim in person, but we really couldn't have got our stuff handled as good as he and his contacts did. PLUS, he was a whole lot cheaper, which is normally always a suspect thing to me. Our 1st container had a collector car and 4 motorbikes as well as household and other items, the second one was mostly Karen's precious items and the rest of the household items. Our second container was considerably overweight, and he even got it changed to a commercial rate to lower that charge! He was also great about keeping us posted about where things were and the status on the trips from Alabama. We recommend him 100%. If we ever lose our minds and move back to the mainland, he'll be our man again

We used the Kona Car Guy to get our BW convertible from the West Coast to Kona. We were pretty concerned about it getting to Hawaii safely, with no scratches, and the least amount of exposure to salt water as possible. We felt very reassured after speaking to him and he even recommended one of the specific ships that was enclosed rather than partially open to the salt air. We were kept informed every step of the way. He was able to get a price that was lower than the company quoted us. The knowledge he has of the shipping company's schedule was very helpful. The sevices of Konacarguy were outstanding. Our move of household goods, 26,000lbs, as well as a small garden tractor, arrived undamaged, on time here in Hawaii all the way from Alabama. I used Kona Car Guy to ship my car from Pittsburgh to Kona. I contacted Jim about 5 months prior to shipping my car to the big island to gather information. He made sure that all of my questions were answered and I felt that my car would be very safe. I had a set date that I needed my car delivered and he promised it would be here. Jim was very good about keeping me updated and what condition the car needed to be in for it be be shipped. It was delivered as promised on the day I needed it and I didn't have to drive to Hilo as some of my other friends had done to pick up their shipped cars, since mine was delivered right to me. Jim properly questioned the wisdom of shipping one of our vehicles (a 1993 Mazda Rx7) but we shipped it anyway and he was right because it has been difficult to get work done on it over here. Anyway, he explained the shipping process clearly and it went smoothly. I believe the rate we paid for the shipping was as good or better than we could have received with anybody else, and Jim handles details with which most people (like me) have no experience.

Shipping my car was one of the least stressful parts of moving my household from Virginia to Hawaii, thanks to the Kona Car Guy! His door-to-door service was as close to that as it could be -- the 16-car-carrier trailer picked my car up in the parking lot a block from my home. Next time I saw it was in Hawaii about 15 minutes away from our new shack in the woods (on a private road no car carrier could ever hope to traverse). When I went to pick up my car, I saw none of the salt spray residue that I'd heard about from others who shipped their vehicles here. On the contrary, my car was in pristine shape and obviously recently washed.

We bought our first vehicle from Jim in 2002. It was a 2002 Toyota Highlander. We shopped for the vehicle locally but the car Jim found us had fewer miles and was less money, even after shipping from the West Coast. A couple of years later our son Matt was leaving to go to college in Oregon. We contacted Jim to get his opinion about selling Matt's car in Hawaii and buying another car in Oregon or whether we should ship his car to Portland. I first met Jim McCain about six years ago, and after about a year I was in the market for a newer car. I asked Jim to keep an eye out for a late model Cadillac El Dorado. Within three weeks he found me a beauty, an all black 2002 with low miles at a very fair price. I bought the car without any hassle, and Jim did all the necessary paper work. About two years later he found a local one-owner special edition 2003 El Dorado with low miles. With seven children our car needs are pretty specific. I found the vehicle I was looking for at a local Ford dealer, a 2005 Ford Expedition XLT.
